I'm John Andrus, DPT, CSCS, a shoulder performance coach. I've spent my career in sports performance and movement coaching, working with some of the top orthopedic and sports medicine teams in the country.
I've trained and coached professional athletes from the NFL, UFC, NBA, MLB, PGA, and USA Volleyball.
But most of my clients today aren't pros. They're people who train hard, got hurt, and can't find anyone who can actually get them back to performing the way they want to. That's what I do.

You've done the rounds. Maybe an MRI. Maybe a cortisone shot. Maybe a conversation about surgery. Definitely PT — possibly more than once. The pain quieted down. Your therapist signed off. And then you tried to actually use your shoulder again — pick up your kid, swing a club, press a weight that used to be a warmup — and there it was again.
Here's what the standard system isn't built to handle. Conventional PT is designed around a specific endpoint: pain-free movement at low load, capable of basic daily activities. Reach a cabinet. Wash your back. Carry groceries. That's the goal, and once you hit it, the system considers the job done. It's a reasonable bar for a lot of people. It's a low bar for you.
The shoulder you've been handed back is technically pain-free at rest, but has almost no spare capacity. It hasn't been progressively loaded. It hasn't been trained back to the demands of a real athletic life — because the system that handled it wasn't built for an athletic shoulder. It was built for the average person, and you're not the average person.

Capacity is the missing piece, and capacity is exactly what conventional PT was never designed to deliver. A three-phase coaching system to take a shoulder that's been holding you back and turn it into one you trust under load again. Built around how shoulders actually adapt and how strong men actually train.

We start by mapping exactly what's going on with your shoulder — the specific movement patterns, mobility limitations, and load tolerances that explain why it fires up when you press, swing, or reach. Doctoral-level movement assessment delivered through structured video screens, detailed history, and capacity testing. By the end of Phase 1, you understand your shoulder better than any provider has explained it to you, and the program ahead is built on that understanding.
- WHY IT MATTERS
Most programs apply the same template to every shoulder. Yours isn't generic. Your program shouldn't be either.
// PHASE 02
Standard rehab ends the moment pain calms down. That's the floor — we're building the ceiling. This phase builds your shoulder's load capacity from where it is today, progressively training it back to handle the kind of work a man who actually trains expects of his body. Structured strength and movement coaching, individualized to your shoulder, your sport, and your goals, with weekly check-ins to adjust as the work compounds. You stay in the gym. The shoulder gets stronger alongside the rest of you.
- WHY IT MATTERS
Capacity is what makes a shoulder reliable. Without it, you're always training around the shoulder. With it, the shoulder is doing the work.

This is where the work pays off. Phase 3 builds your shoulder past pre-injury capacity — the loads, the swings, the reach, the round of golf, throwing a ball with your son or grandson without thinking twice. The goal isn't getting back to where you were. The goal is being more capable than you've been in a decade, with a shoulder built to hold up for the next one.

Returning to baseline is a temporary fix. Building beyond it is what makes the result last.
